As you can see the brand new OTH website is LIVE. HORAY! WOOOOOO!

Finally OTH has a real website that it can be proud of. I have a lot of plans for the site and the comic but because of the labor day weekend and the time I spent putting the site together I have not had time to work on the actual comic. So the new Tues/Fri comic schedule will start next week. Starting Tues look out for 2 comics a week!

I’ve been dorking around with the process in which I create the comics and some of the things I’ve tried have worked and others have not. When I started doing this I was drawing them by hand, scanning them, inking them in Flash and then coloring and mastering them in Photoshop. The past couple times I’ve still drawn the main chunks of the art by hand but doing the inking and coloring all in Photoshop thus removing the Flash step of the process.

That shift did make things a little bit quicker but the inking is a lot less forgiving in PS than in Flash. I’ve had some time to do research in brushes and I’ve come up with some nice ones for painting and sketching. However I’m still playing with a good inking brush in PS. Hopefully I’ll nail something down working through the next couple of comics and really get a perfect work flow that will continue to work. If I can’t get a good ink brush going in PS I might simply move back to Flash for it. Either way I think the overall quality of the comics are going to continue to improve, time will tell.

To the 28 people who saw Friday’s comic I regret to inform you that I will not be doing a comic for Tuesday, I know it’s sad. I just didn’t have the energy to produce one over the weekend. There will be one Friday.

Being an artist tends to mean that any whiteboard with in 20 feet of said artist will more than likely get drawn on. This is the case where I work from 9 to 5. Being surrounded by other artists also means that collaborations tend to occur on these whiteboards. Rarely is there work related things on the boards, but we look at it as a creative outlet for us. So I give you the first of a on going series of images where I’ll share the delights of my whiteboard doodles.

I just finished the sketch for Tuesday’s comic and I’m about to start the sketch for Friday’s so already we’re off to a good start this week. I’m trying to get ahead of myself so that I don’t find myself in the situation I found myself in this week: It’s comic day, I have no ideas nor any sketches ready to ink/color. Yea it was bad week for me as I was racing to meet a deadline at work and finding myself exhausted when I got home. All I wanted to do at that point was eat, and relax with my wife. I wanted zero to do with my computer or anything remotely involving effort. I apologize for that, but I’m now working extra hard to ensure that I have comicus queued up for the ready just so that I’m never caught with my pants down again.

Hopefully the site will grow and I can add all the fun features and ideas I have in the to-do box for this site. I will continue to include Whiteboard Logs as I do them, I have a good one coming up on Monday so keep an eye out for that.
